Butchers Bistro

Restaurant Details
Address26 Cliff Road , , Newquay
CommentsButchers was a real find. On a recent visit to Newquay I checked out eatoutcornwall and saw this restaurant listed so had to give it a go. Incredibly friendly and welcoming. Excellent menu choices, so much so that I had to return the 2nd night I was in Newquay just to try some more dishes. On my first visit I enjoyed the Crab Cakes and a medley of fish with a great apple crumble to follow. 2nd visit saw me polishing off some delicious local rabbit followed by the most amazing bowl of fish chowder, and then there was no room for a pudding! A good wine list to go with the food as well. This restaurant has to be a winner and I will definately be returning for more.

Tabbs

Restaurant Details
Address85 Kenwynn Street , , Truro
CommentsNigel's cooking never fails to please and he is the "King of Taste" in my opinion. His food will excite your tastebuds into a frenzy and if you've never visited, you've missed an absolute treat! The contemporary decor of the restaurant creates a lovely relaxed atmosphere and the staff are extremely friendly. It is good to know that Nigel is involved in every aspect of the food preparation from the bread through to the chocolates at the end of your meal - a truly wonderful chef.

Sally's

Restaurant Details
Address40 Vicarage Road , , St Agnes
CommentsWhilst on our 1st wedding anniversary break, we drove a few miles from home and settled into St Agnes for a few days. Opposite our B&B was Sally's. We had been advised that there were excellent vegetarian options and fish specials. We passed by the first night, and while we and another couple stopped to look at the menu outside. Sally came out and breezily said "we have some fish specials as well" and handed over a list. As the restaurant was already quite busy and we just wanted a snack before bedtime, we moved on... the next evening we were back, the choice of specials was about the same length as the standard menu - all based on whatever had been caught locally. The atmosphere was jolly, and the staff were clearly enjoying being there and welcomed us warmly. When our generously portioned starters came, we knew we had come to the right place. With some excellent organic local beers they went down a treat. As if by magic, the mains arrived promptly, just the right amount of time to have a quick sip and comment about how lovely the place was. There was no doubt the chef knew what he was doing. The fish (Hake) was fantastic - perhaps the best I've known (and I nearly always have the fish and only if its local and fresh), the stuffed Field Mushroom was absolutely delicious and deceptively filling, with a rare array of flavours. Between us, there was enough room for just one desert, again, a generous portion and two forks saw that nothing was left. After all the other customers had left, and a couple of coffees, we had time for a chat with Sally. She is genuinely friendly and cares about what she does and therefore does it very well indeed. We met the chef too, a quiet and unassuming chap who takes pride in his work. We would recommend this petite restaurant to our friends and visitors alike, what's more, we will certainly be booking a table again. Top of the class!

Castaways

Restaurant Details
AddressOld Admiralty House , Mylor Harbour , Falmouth
CommentsAfter arriving at Castaways wine bar to first see the stunning location we were then made very welcome. The meal was fantastic, we all had beautiful starters picked from a wide range of tapas available. To follow we were able to choose from a variety of main dishes from the daily specials and the menu, all of our meals were to a very high standard. Fresh local produce that was cooked to perfection. I would highly recomend Castways.

Mawgans Restaurant

Restaurant Details
Address Higher Market Street , Looe , Looe
CommentsWhat can I say? Mawgan's Restaurant could very well be the best restaurant I have ever been to. My partner and myself booked up for a quiet, relaxing weekend away and decided to go out for a meal. We were not sure of where to go so asked a local shop keeper and they suggested Mawgan's straight away. We walked in, were greeted very politely and it just felt like home but with someone else cooking which in my eyes is a good thing. The service was of the highest standard with a fantastic selection of meals ranging from fish based meals, more general meals and some with a hint of asian background. The wine selection was really good as well. The meal itself in our eyes was perfect, we rarely get to go out for a meal alone and so to find somewhere with such a warm welcome was a dream come true. I've just found out that Mawgan's is also a B&B so I think we'll definately stay there instead of on a holiday site. I would like to thank Mawgan's for a very memorable evening. Great service, wonderful food, very relaxing atmosphere, it all contributed to our own celebration and we will definately be back at some point hopefully soon.

The Abbey Restaurant

Restaurant Details
AddressAbbey Street , , Penzance
CommentsThe menu surprise was a fantastic way to spend a very pleasant evening. 5 courses of some of the best food I have ever tasted in Cornwall. The yound chef Adam Cain did a fantastic job and we were well looked after by the Maitre 'd Cinzia Iezzi who guided us through each dish and accompanying wines with the same passion as had gone into the preparation of each and every different taste on the plate. Excellent.

Newlyn Seafood Cafe

Restaurant Details
AddressThe Bridge , Newlyn , Penzance
CommentsExcellent fresh seafood, lovingly cooked in an imaginative way. Generous portions, providing excellent value for money. Nice intimate atmosphere, personal friendly service. Good choice of wines. One of the best seafood meals we have had in a long time. (The mixed seafood grill was huge, containing monkfish, hake, salmon, sole, and the tasting platter to start was big enough for 2, with smoked salmon, soused shellfish, prawns and smoked mackerel. Excellent!)

Trawlers on the Quay

Restaurant Details
AddressBuller Quay , , East Looe
CommentsThe last w/e in October saw my husband and I take a quick w/e break in Looe. Our guide book (The Rough Guide) suggested three restaurants and as we were looking to eat local fish we started off in the Trawlers. It was easy to find and although dark by the time we arrived, it was easy to see how close to the water's edge it was. The restaurant was lively and friendly. We were greeted warmly and seated straight away. The fresh baked breads were absolutely delicious and I think I could have dined on just these with the bowl of olives! There were three different types of bread and each was gently warm and extremely palatable. We continued with both starter and main course - both of which were delicious. I would recommend the bream which was tender and very tasty (unlike my meal the following evening in another fish restaurant where the bream was overcooked and tough!) The service was unrushed, calm and attentive. We loved the evening and the place was fully occupied which is always a plus to us as we both like the hum of people around us enjoying their meals and having a good time ..... as indeed we did. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone planning to visit Looe.

The Beach

Restaurant Details
AddressSennen Cove , , Lands End
CommentsI had the worst chicken salad ever at the Beach - had there originally been any flavour, it had disappeared, due to the chicken being served ice cold. I had a quiet word with the waitress afterwards, in order not to embarrass our guests, and asked her to pass my comments to the chef, but was interrupted by a senior member of staff, who said with heavy sarcasm "It is, of course, a SALAD, and we usually serve it COLD. What a pity you didn't warn us and we could have heated it up for you." Her manner was so rude that I was lost for words. I shall never eat there again, and neither will my guests, who are residents of Sennen.

Piero's Ristorante and Pizzeria

Restaurant Details
AddressKenwyn Street , , Truro
CommentsIf I was the location scout for Life On Mars I would have them have dinner every night in Piero's. There are pepper mills in there older than anything in the Royal Cornwall Museum. But there's nothing wrong with eating in a Thatcher Years Italian Bistro theme park, provided the pizza is good. But is it? I went there last night with my Mamma, bambinis and esposa? (ok no more cod-Italian. My husband). All had pizza (vegetarian, kids', and the prosaically named 'multi topping') except Mamma mia, who had lasagne. The place was much busier than we expected for a Wednesday night, and I think a fair bit busier than the management expected too, if the service was anything to go by. The waiting staff were pressured, but always pleasant. It took long enough to get served for my youngest to make and discard a party hat from her napkin, make two solo trips to the toilet and finally attempt sleep on her chair. She's only four. It was probably about 35 minutes. But holy moley, when the pizzas arrived, everyone woke up. It's not every day your dinner is in the shape of a rabbit's head with spicy sausage eyes. For the record, I'd rather mine never was, but the kids were well impressed by the pizza pet portrait. My own pizza was the usual round shape, and looked pretty appetising. It had some zingy fresh spinach on it, a floury, broken crust and a fair tomato/ mozarella ratio. Great. Except for the presence of my own bete noir, the rotten reanimated corpse of the golden headed beauty queen of the vegetable kingdom, the dread yellow peril: sweetcorn. Once I had scraped off the offending veg, the pizza was actually pretty good. Nice and crispy base and flavoursome fresh toppings. The 'multi topping' pizza did indeed have a variety of things on it- vegetables, salami, bacon etc., but sadly no exotic items, like artichoke. Must be the old credit crunch biting. The lasagne, the size of a child's bed, was declared 'good'. As we left, I wondered whether I could give Piero's a fair mark. Whenever I eat there I'm with a big party. Sometimes it's the extended family. There are requests for extra olives, dozens of straws of the same or different colours, spills to be mopped up. Or I'm with friends, talking loudly with our mouths full and ordering another bottle of house something. The staff are always accommodating, the atmosphere is always festive and you never have to book. What more could you want from an old fashioned family pizza joint? I'm giving Piero's seven out of ten for the pizza itself. For the way it takes you back to your childhood quicker than roller boots, nine.

C3 Restaurant

Restaurant Details
Address3 Coinagehall Street , , Helston
CommentsWe went to C3 for a family meal accompanied by our 4 year old who was made very welcome and the menu was altered to suit his eating habits. The atmosphere was relaxed, the staff were friendly and efficient. The presentation of our food was amazing and it was obvious that much care and skill had been taken to prepare it. The flavours were beautiful and vegetables were fresh and cooked to perfection. We have since booked a Christmas meal with friends and are looking forward to it.

Couch's Great House Restaurant.

Restaurant Details
AddressSaxon Bridge , , Polperro
CommentsWe had our Wedding meal here in September and what a perfect end to a perfect day. We received a warm welcome by Richard on our arrival and the service throughout the meal was second to none. The presentation and quality of the food was fantastic and we really don't know how the cost is kept so low (we had the 4 course option for £28). Excellent selection of wines. The chocolates served with the coffee were to die for - and we are still dreaming about them! Sad I know! The background music was particularly pleasant and unobtrusive. The whole experience was just perfect and when we return to Polperro - hopefully not too far in the future - we hope to find this wonderful restaurant going from strength to strength - deservedly so.

River Brasserie

Restaurant Details
AddressParade Square , , Lostwithiel
CommentsWe dined here with my inlaws a couple of months ago & wow, I was very impressed.. On arrival, our waitress was warm & welcoming. The menu was delicious & we all had trouble choosing as everything sounded so tempting. Our orders were taken promptly & any queries were answered by our knowledgeable waitress. We all opted to forgo starters as the desserts sounded so fab & they didn’t let us down. From a chocoholics point of view the chocolate dessert is a must. The evening was terrific from start to finish, I have nothing negative to say at all. Please don’t just read about this restaurant, go there. I promise you will not be disappointed!

We ate there twice last week and the food was brilliant, not too fancy, not pretentious, just good honest affordable food. Well done all the guys there, doing a great job, we will be back as i need to try so many more dishes on their menu. Good luck to them I say.

Pistachio Brasserie

Restaurant Details
Address5-7 The Crescent , , Newquay
CommentsWe stumbled upon this restaurant during a very cold day out in Newquay in search of a warm drink. We were shown to an extremely comfortable set of sofas and served the most fantastic hot chocolates and coffees. Once nicely warmed we decided to stay for the Sunday Lunch. The restaurant itself is tastefully decorated and is light and airy and has a very relaxing atmosphere. The food exceeded all our expectations and three courses later we were all well sated. The presentation of the food from start to finish was excellent, with good quality produce and cooked to perfection. The staff were sweeties and nothing was too much trouble. They were even happy to accommodate the fussy palate of a six year old. This is definately somewhere we will be coming back to and will be recommending to others.

Bustophers

Restaurant Details
Address62 Lemon Street , , Truro
Commentswe visited ona pre-booked basis on a busy Saturday evening in October and were greeted by a friendly and professional team who looked after us attentively during the evening. We sat on one of the prime location tables in the front window and whilst it did not detract from our enjoyment of the atmosphere in the restuarant, I would prefer to be in the hurlyburly of the main section when I return. Bizarrely but worth noting for the restauranteur, I have never before felt that I was seated too low at a restuarant table. The quality of the food was exceptional for the price (£25 a head including wine) although I did think the wine list was on the pricey side. We picked a mixture of Pork, Fish and vegetarian dishes which were of high standard and the fish exquisite, the mussels being the finest I have eaten in 2008. This is a resturant to which I would gladly return, and I would like to thank our delightful waitress Naomi for her excellent tableside manner. Nice one Bustophers !

Address14 Dean Street , , Liskeard
CommentsI have eaten here twice in as many weeks. The first time was for a party of 30 and a special occasion for myself. I was given a very friendly welcome along with a compliment drink. The service was first class and the food excellent. My second visit was with two good friends, again a warm and friendly greeting awaited us. There was wide choice of dishes on the menu and meals adapted, where possible, to accommodate specific likes and dislikes. The food was outstanding and of a very high standard, as was the service. This is somewhere I shall return to again and again. I also liked the cosy seating area where I could enjoy a drink before and after my meal.

CommentsMy family went to 'The Butchers' Bistro' to celebrate my nephews' 18th Birthday. It was an excellent evening. The staff were absolutely top grade, they could not of made us feel more welcome than they did. The service was great, fast between courses and should be praised upon their efforts. The meal itself was 'outstanding' We all had various options from the fabulous menu and enjoyed it all. There was so much to chose from, lots of local produce and cooked superbly by the chef. We even had a chef as part of our party and he couldn't fault any of it. If anybody reads this review then I would VERY highly reccomend a meal here and shall be telling everyone I know about it. Chantek Asian Fusion Restaurant.

Restaurant Details
Address15 New Bridge Street , , Truro
CommentsI recently visted Chantek with my wife and eighteen-month old son and had a fantastic meal. They found us a quiet corner and made us all feel very much at home. There was a perfect menu for our little one (he LOVED the food and the staff LOVED him!!) and we were spoilt for choice, too. We were both amazed by the spicy Thai papaya salad with lime juice, dried shrimps, chilli and green papaya. I also really enjoyed the tom yum soup with prawns. It's the kind of dish that could ward off the nastiest of flu bugs, with its hit of ginger and chillies - clean, hot and fresh flavours. Mains included a sublime Thai curry and a Chilli Beef from the specials board made with prime Cornish Beef. I'd recommend Chantek to anyone heading down to Cornwall (in fact, we've already spread the word as far round our hotel as we could manage!). The food is great, the atmosphere relaxed and friendly and the space is lovely.

Westcoast bar & restaurant

Restaurant Details
AddressNarrowcliff Road , , Newquay
CommentsI visited this restaurant last week for a meal with my family. My first impressions of the place were outstanding, it looked 10x better than the pictures i had originally seen of it on here. OOnce i had spoken to the staff, they had told us it had all been renovated and decorated. it looked fantastic. it was so much brighter in there and looked very cosy. The staff were superb, there were very attentive, and very polite, nothing was too much trouble for them. The food was outstanding, there was such a varied menu, for children as well as adults and from basic meals for the less adventurous like me husband, but a lot more classy and exciting for myself. it was all cooked from fresh and they have a kitchen area with a large stone pizza oven so you can see one of the chefs cooking which i feel is fantasic, there were candles lit on all of the tables and lovely music, the whole restaurant was filled with laughter which was a great atmosphere. Whilst we were waiting for our food, the children went downstairs and played in Squiggles, the restaurants soft play area. it was amazing down there, they have trained staff and it kept them busy whilst we enjoyed a loverly bottle of wine. Upstairs is a bar/lounge area which we sat in after our meal. It was very good value for money. I enquired about prices for the childrens play area so that i could come along with some of my friends that have children, and its only £1 for the day, you cant ask fairer than that, they have sofas there so that the parents can enjoy a coffee etc and food can also be ordered from there. The whole front of the restaurant was lit up and there is a huge patio area with an outside kids area as well for when its warmer. My favourite part of the evening were the desserts, they were gorgeous. I have told everyone i know about this place, and have already booked there for our works christmas dinner. I would recommend this to everyone! 10/10!

Margots Bistro

Restaurant Details
Address11 Duke Street , Padstow ,
CommentsIt was our 37th wedding anniversary and quite by chance Margot's had a spare table for two due to a cancellation. (We later learned that normally you have to book a table weeks in advance). Although small, the atmosphere was excellent as was the friendly, courteous service. The food was absolutely exquisite and the fish (we chose cod) was cooked to perfection. We couldn't fault a single thing and would recommend Margot's in Padstow to anyone wanting outstanding cuisine. We dined on 9 October 2008.

CommentsLostwithiel is blessed with a disproportionately high number of excellent eating places. I have lost count of how many times I have dined here and yet, inexcusably, I have never written a review. A wonderful informal atmoshere pervades the dining room with a gentle intimacy. The service is prompt and efficient and Tony, the Chef-patron is always keen to talk food. The menu is very comprehensive and the cooking superb. This has to be my favourite restaurant in a town full of culinary excellence.

Brocksmoor Hotel and Restaurant

Restaurant Details
AddressWidemouth Bay , , Bude
CommentsI am reluctant to write a review on this hotel as it may cause it to become too popular but praise where it’s due!! Hidden away behind the overpowering Widemouth Manor Hotel in Widemouth Bay is a real Gem of a find, “The Brocksmoor Hotel/Restaurant.” A truly remarkable establishment. I have known this hotel/restaurant for many years and it's rejuvenation has been dramatic and impressive. Jo, Mike and the staff have worked wonders on the appearance and ambience and I have to say it is the best (and only!) place in the area that I recommend. The meals are a delight with a thoughtful menu, beautiful presentation and excellent, non intrusive, service. All at a reasonable price which is becoming more difficult to find! Sunday lunches are outstanding and the whole family made to feel welcome and special. It has become a regular haunt for our family a promises to be so for many years to come. Congratulations to all. (See you next Sunday Lunch if you if you have room for us again!)
